If you're scared, you're ready!

I was talking to a client and she asked me about my story. I realized, I never told anyone my full story.

Because I wasn’t ready.

You might not be ready to start your career transition just like I wasn’t ready to share my gift.

But here’s the rest of my story. The part I wasn’t ready to tell.

I worked in a very 1 & 2 energy level company for over 12 years. If you don’t know what level 1 & 2 are, check out Energy Leadership. In short, it was a very toxic environment.

I was working at this company and getting my professional coaching certification at the same time. After getting my certificate, I wanted to start sharing my gift. While talking to my coworkers, I hear soooooo many stories about how much they hated their jobs.

All I wanted to say was ‘Call me after work and we’ll chat’.

But I didn’t because I was scared of what the company might do if they found out. So I kept it to myself.

Then one day I said to myself, as long as I worked at this company, I’m NEVER going to be ready to share with them about my passion. So I bit the bullet and made the boldest move (for me). I announced it to my LinkedIn community that I’m a certified professional coach and will start posting content about career transition.

And it happened.

I got a phone call from my manager grilling me about what I do as a coach. She questioned why I never told her and how this would affect my work.

My answer was ‘If I was an Uber driver, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.’.

She demanded for me to give her a heads up every time I put out a post. So I naturally said ‘Consider this your heads up, I plan to post daily.’.

But I figured it out.

She had the same fear I did. Fear of what the higher ups might do to her if they found out about me. She wanted to protect herself. I couldn’t blame her because we were in the same boat.

I know your situation might not be the same as mine. You might not want to start your own business to support your passion. However, if you ever think ‘I am not ready’, that is a sign that you are ready. You wouldn’t be thinking about it if you’re not ready. You’re just scared.

There is nothing wrong with being scared. But if you let that fear turn into excuses and prevent you from trying, then you’re going to be stuck right where you are until you’re ready to take that chance.
