Can you take a compliment?

“Fiona! Why can’t you take a damn compliment?!’, my manager said to me (more than once).

I didn't want to appear conceded or have a big ego. It made me uncomfortable.  So I would say "Yeah ok. Just doing my job boss.".

Thinking back, I realized I was doing myself a disservice and insulted my manager at the same time. By minimizing my manager’s praise, I was telling them they didn’t have an eye for good work. I was telling them their opinion was wrong about me.

Which lead to a disservice to myself because I was dimming my light. I thought being modest was the right thing to do but by doing so, I also made myself believed I wasn’t great at anything.

So when I was trying to figure out my next career move, I couldn’t figure it out because I had no idea what I was good at.

When I went on interviews and the interviewer asked ‘Why should we hire you?’, I could only joke and say ‘Because I’m awesome?’.

The fact is, I am awesome. And so are you!

Knowing what you’re good at is not being conceded, it is being confident. It’s you knowing what comes easy for your naturally.

Are you ready to figure out what you’re good at so you can confidently say on your next interview “You should hire me because I’m awesome! Here’re the reasons why….’?

Schedule a call with me and we’ll work together to find out how you can turn ‘I don’t know what I’m good at’ into ‘I am great at so many things!’.
